When my kids see me get out my camera they usually run in the other direction. So I knew it would be a major feat to get one good picture of the two of them in their Easter duds. I had my plan of attack all set up and organized, but of course neither of them were on board. It took some coaxing (and maybe a promise of a scoop of ice cream at 10:30 in the morning), but I managed to do it–capture a photograph of the two of them that I (and hopefully they) will cherish forever.
I said to my mom the other day, “Aren’t siblings supposed to like each other?”
“Where on earth did you get that idea?” she quickly responded. Right now Jacob and Abby are definitely not the best friends that I hoped they would be. Not a morning goes by that one of them isn’t reduced to tears by the actions of the other. Jacob is very into independent play and Abby is our “me too” kid. So those two just don’t go together. Nope, best friends they certainly are not.
They are brother and sister. They are more than best friends. They put up with one another’s tantrums, pushing, and toy taking. They share life on a daily basis, get past the little squabbles, and at the end of the day, always kiss each other good night before bed.
So when I snapped this picture in a fleeting moment of tenderness, I was thrilled. This image shows what I know to be true about their relationship. They may not always like one another, but they always love each other. And as a mom, that is what is most important to me.

What I love about photographing this age is that you can capture so many of the great little things that toddlers do. It’s so much more fun for me to just follow them around rather than place them back on a stool over and over again. Toddlers love to explore and I love to follow them, hoping to capture that special moment when they experience something new.
I love watching the interactions between families when I photograph. You could seriously just feel how much love Mom and Dad have for {P}. And how could you not adore her? Just look at those huge brown eyes and beautiful lashes!
This picture is one of my favorites–it totally looks to me like she is practicing her curtsey.
I also love when Mom and I are on the same page. We both came prepared with an Easter basket and eggs.
Thank you {H} family for letting me capture these moments of your little girl. Your online gallery will be up soon with even more images of our beautiful morning.
