family fun | sacramento family photographer

This weekend I was able to meet up with a wonderful family from our church and their extended family. Grandma had gotten all of the boys matching outfits (from my favorite children’s store, I might add) and they all looked awesome in their new duds. I have to warn you–you’re going to be on picture overload here! I just couldn’t narrow them down. I was able to photograph their entire group, as well as individual families. They were all so great to work with and the kids kept cracking me up! They were awesome and super well behaved.blog51blog64

newborn casting call | sacramento baby photographer

Update 6/3/09: I’m closing the newborn casting call thanks to a great response from new mommies. Check back in the next couple of weeks to get your fill of sweet new babies!

What is a newborn casting call?

Well, I’m looking for some fresh faces for my newborn portfolio and have some awesome new props, wraps, and backdrops that I’d like to try out. So if you or anyone you know is expecting between now and the end of June, send them my way. I am specifically looking for newborns that will be 10 days old or younger at the time of their photography session and are still in that sleepy, curly, and bendy stage.

What’s involved?

I have some specific poses in mind so the majority of the session will be focused on capturing those images. But I really just can’t get enough of newborns, so I always take lots of images in several different poses so if you have pose preferences, I’m sure we can capture those as well. A signed model release will be required which allows me to use the images on my website, blog, or for other marketing purposes. You must also live in the greater Sacramento area.

What’s in it for me?

As a thank you for letting me photograph your new baby, you’ll receive a complimentary set of 25 custom birth announcements. Additional prints may be purchased at my current rates.

How do I sign up?

Email me (click on the contact link above) with your due date (or baby’s age if you have a new little one) and your baby’s gender. I can’t wait to meet your new little one and capture their precious first images!

And since I just love all that newborn sweetness, here is one to tie you over until next time.casting1

friend of mine | sacramento portrait photographer

I was so excited when an old friend of mine contacted me and said she wanted to get some portraits done. I was even more excited when she said that she wanted to head to Old Sacramento and explore the area–my kind of photography session! I had such a great afternoon with {A} despite the 105 degree heat (in the middle of May mind you!). What a wonderful time reminiscing with an old friend and capturing these gorgeous images of her. Seriously, I cannot get over her eyes–aren’t they stunning? blog1a1{A} and I have known each other for 23 years and our friendship is so important to me. It’s one of those where no matter how much time goes by, you can always pick right back up where you left off.blog21I just loved these stairs with the bright yellow stripes. It’s funny how as a photographer you tend to view even things like the pavement differently.blog31blog42
{A}, I hope you love your images from our session. I had such a great time catching up. Your online gallery will be up later in the week–in the meantime, enjoy!

one year later | sacramento family photographer

So much happens in one year. Babies are conceived and born, babies turn into toddlers, and toddlers become children. I’ve watched both of my children make these types of transitions this past year and I’m always amazed at how quickly they grow up. But one person hasn’t been here to watch them reach these milestones. One year ago today my dad lost his brief battle with kidney cancer. As I celebrate each moment of life with my children my heart aches for their loss. It aches because they truly had the best Papa anyone could ask for. He loved my children with everything he had. He was so proud of them and constantly told them so. And he always told me how proud he was of the mother I became. I miss that–I miss hearing from the man that I’ve always looked up to that I was doing a good job even when I second guess myself. My dad really was my biggest fan and he never let a day go by that he didn’t tell me so.

So much happens in a year. But in some ways, it seems like time has been standing still. I’ll never get over this great loss in my life. Time will lessen the pain, but the void is always there. I miss my daddy. My kids miss their Papa. And I miss this great man who had such a legacy of integrity, laughter, and loyalty.

This image is my favorite picture that I have of Abby and my Dad. I love this picture because I have so many like it of my dad holding me at this age. I love her expression and the tenderness he shows. I truly cherish this picture and I know that Abby will one day, too.blog11

so deserving | sacramento baby photographer

I just love that Dad wanted to surprise Mom for Mother’s Day with a photography session of their new, beautiful bundle of joy. And I can’t really think of anyone more deserving of such a gift given the fact that Baby {N} weighed 11 pounds 12 ounces at birth! In my opinion, Mom deserves a spa day, dozens of roses and pounds and pounds of chocolate just as a start. I think I have a new hero. Makes my nearly nine pounder seem like a peanut!

I  fall in love with each newborn I photograph and {N} was no exception. He was so sweet, cuddly, and sleepy for us which made capturing his cuteness a total breeze.blog1a

blog4blog6I couldn’t resist snapping this when {N} needed a feeding break. What a proud Papa!

blog7Dad–thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to photograph your two week old little guy. I hope Mom loved her Mother’s Day surprise!
