four months | sacramento infant photographer

Last night I visited an awesome new park and an even more awesome baby boy. {J} is just four months old but is already so full of personality. And I could not get over his eyes–they are the most beautiful shade of blue and are so expressive. j4I just love this next image because I know Mom will look back at it when he’s older and remember those early days when {J} was cutting his first tooth.

j5Mom brought so many great ideas and props with her. I LOVE this chair and hope to get a few for my own collection. And how convenient was it that there just happened to be a sand volleyball court at the park we were at? Seriously, it looks like he’s actually enjoying an afternoon at the beach! I love it!j1This next image is one of my favorites of {J}. I told you his eyes were so expressive!
j3a2I just can’t get over the pouty lips in this last image. Baby features are so perfect and {J} was no exception.
j2Mom, thank you so much for spending the evening with me! You have such a precious little boy and he was a doll to photograph. I hope you enjoy your sneak peek–I’ll have your online gallery up soon!

what should we wear? | sacramento family photographer

This is one of  the most popular questions I get asked (right up there with location choices). And I must say, these two questions are not only popular, but they are probably the most important ones you can ask when dealing with custom photography.

Clothing that draws you in and doesn’t distract is the goal. Too many prints, stripes, or patterns can pull your the attention away from the actual people and onto the clothes themselves. The idea is to compliment one another so the clothing flows together and the viewer focuses on the people in the picture, not necessarily what they are wearing.

Inspired by Lisa Russo Photography, I’ve put together a sample of what this actually looks like when deciding what each family member should wear.

more baby newness | sacramento infant photographer

Two newborns, two days in a row? Honestly, I had a hard time sleeping last night knowing that I got to wake up and photograph another beautiful newborn baby this morning. It felt like Christmas–the anticipation–I could hardly stand it! I really have developed such a love for infant photography. There is something really amazing about being able to capture those first few days of life.

Today I spent the morning with another wonderful family (have I mentioned that I have the best clients anyone could ask for?) When I arrived {A} was wide awake, but she quickly fell into such a precious slumber and we were able to get some fantastic images of her. What a beautiful little girl.

When Mom got out her box of hair bows and hats I nearly fell over! I just love this next hat–it was exactly what I had in mind for our session!blog13Every time I photograph a newborn I get “baby fever”. I just can’t get over their smell, their adorable little noises, and snuggliness. There really is nothing like the innocence of new life.blog52I just love baby {A’s} little swoopy mouth in this image.

blog32Doesn’t she just look great in purple?
blog42{O} family–I had such a great morning with you. Thank you so much for welcoming me into your home to photograph your adorable new addition. And Mom, I’ll be emailing you about playgroup–I have a feeling that {I} and my Abby will become great friends. Enjoy your sneak peek and I’ll have your online gallery up within the week!

one week new | sacramento newborn photographer

Have I said before that I love my job? I’m pretty sure I say it every post, but here I go again. I love that I get to share such special moments with such wonderful families. It makes me want to pinch myself when I think about the fact that I get to spend afternoons with precious newborn babies and their loving parents. It’s like a dream!

Today was no exception when I visited with the {W} family. Let me tell you–they were so awesome! You could feel the love they have for each other the second you walk in the door. And little miss {M} was as sweet as can be. I must say, she has been my best sleeper so far. Any time she stirred a warm hand placed on her back was all it took to get her into that peaceful slumber again. She was incredible!

I have so many favorites from this session that I can hardly narrow them down.
This first one is probably one of my all time favorite images.

blog12Even when we switched out our backdrops {M} stayed fast asleep and snuggled down into her new pose.
blog21I love how bendy and curly one week old babies are.blog41This was one of our last images and I just love her big yawn.blog31Baby features are so amazing. Mom and I were talking about how you could just stare at her all day long.
It really doesn’t get more beautiful than a newborn baby.

blog51{W} family–I had a wonderful day with you! And tell {J} that when I’m looking to hire an assistant in a few years I’ll be giving be giving him a call–what an awesome big brother and wonderful helper! I hope you love your sneak peek of your precious little one. I’ll have your online gallery up for you within the week. In the meantime, enjoy!

a sunday well spent | sacramento family photographer

I met up this weekend with a long time friend of mine to photograph her beautiful family. {J} was my friend and mentor when I was in high school and our relationship is so near and dear to my heart. It’s been quite a while since we’ve been able to catch up. We’re both mommies now and life gets hectic, but it’s so nice to have friendships where you can pick back up right where you left off–no matter how much time has passed

We decided to meet in Lincoln at this great reserve that even had it’s own little dog park (which proved to be quite useful for the lush, green background in our family images). Luckily no dogs were using the park at the time so we took over and had some fun!blog4{J’s} oldest son reminds me so much of my Jacob. He is so outgoing and friendly and took to me right away (and I did to him as well). He pretended not to like the camera at first, but I knew better. I got so many amazing shots of him but this series was my absolute favorite. I love how you can see the individual seed “parachutes” falling off of the dandelion. So cool!blog1{J’s} youngest son is more reserved with such a sweet spirit about him. He was all about the nature around us, collecting his “fuzzies” and hunting for lady bugs. I had so much fun getting to know him.blog5

I had to get some images of the boys together. They were so hysterical making “zerberts” on each other’s faces.blog3And right after I took this picture I knew it would be my favorite. These two are such awesome people and I’m so glad to have their family in my life.blog2{J}, I hope you loved your sneak peek! I’ll have your online gallery up by the end of the week. It was so wonderful spending my Sunday afternoon with you–let’s plan a bbq soon so our kids can hang out! I just have a sneaking feeling that {I} and Jacob will hit it off, too!
