It was a big day in our household this past Wednesday. My baby grew up. Well, not entirely, but he embarked on a major milestone in his little life–his first day of preschool. Jacob has eagerly awaited this day all summer, constantly asking, “Is it preschool time yet?” Preschool time finally came, and I must say, I actually found myself just a bit sad at the fact that he was headed off to school for the very first of many days to come.
I just can’t believe how grown up he has become. That he gets dressed all by himself. That he can sit at the table and do an entire maze all on his own. That he helps his little sister learn her colors and letters. He’s becoming independent and less mommy-dependent. Which is a good thing, but bittersweet all the same.
And I love these next pictures because I was in the middle of asking Jacob where he was headed. “PRESCHOOL!” he shouted as I clicked the shutter.
I love you my sweet boy–I am so proud of you. And you have given a new favorite part of my day–the time when I pick you up from school and you tell me all about the friends you have made and the things you have learned. What a fun journey we’re starting together.

{J} is a neighbor of ours, a babysitter to our children, and an all around great girl. I always have so much fun catching up with her about crew and yearbook and chatting about Twilight (although I don’t think she’s actually obsessed like I am.)
I just love this next one in the field with her gorgeous dress. {J} was much more brave than I was–I am seriously terrified of rattle snakes which makes it very difficult to get those amazing field pictures I always envision in my head. It’s very difficult to be professional when you’re squealing because you feel a snake-like weed brush up against your leg. Luckily my fear didn’t affect {J’s} ability to take gorgeous pictures–she’s a natural!
And just because I absolutely love color I couldn’t resist adding this image to the sneak peek. Love the shirt {J}! I’m so glad you brought it along!
{J}–thank you so much for choosing me as your senior portrait photographer. I had a great time with you (and mom and sis, of course!). You are such a treasure to our family and I hope you absolutely love your images. I’ll have many, many more for you soon in your gallery. In the meantime, enjoy!
I was so excited to see some of {L’s} wardrobe choices. It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of color, so I absolutely loved this outfit on her. And I have also become a huge fan of photographing seniors on the railroad tracks. Something about it makes me think of how they are about to embark on a new journey in their lives, going off to college, traveling down a different path.
Again, I have so many pictures it’s so hard to choose just a few for the sneak peek. {L} just doesn’t take a bad picture–she was so natural and was great to hang out with.
And I appreciate that {L} didn’t even make fun of me and my ridiculous ways of showing her how to pose. I have a difficult time articulating poses that I’m envisioning, so I usually end up physically showing my clients the pose I’m after. The problem is, I still maintain the pose when I’m behind the camera clicking away. I’m sure I look like such a dork with my hip popped out and my hand on my hip as I’m photographing. Luckily, {L} looks amazing!
I absolutely love this next one. The colors, the smile, everything–just beautiful!
{L}, thank you so much for choosing me as your senior portrait photographer. I had such a great time avoiding the bicyclists, spiders, and poison oak with you! I hope you enjoy your sneak peek! I’ll have many more images in your gallery soon!
We had so much fun trying out different poses–I love this next series.
I always ask my clients if they have a “good serious face”. I for one have a super scary serious face. Every time I try to take a picture and look contemplative, I honestly just end up looking angry. Well, {T} definitely doesn’t have a scary serious face–she looks absolutely stunning!
Before I finish a session I always make sure I’ve captured everything my clients were hoping for. {T} mentioned that she wanted an image on the railroad tracks that had a more vintage feel. It’s amazing how just processing an image a bit differently gives it a new feel. I love how this one turned out–it looks like something right out of an Anthropologie magazine.
{T} I have so many more images it’s ridiculous–I’ll email you as soon as your online gallery is ready. Thank you so much for hanging out with me and letting me capture this moment in your life. I hope you love your sneak peek!
