They were all fed, dressed, buckled up and ready to go. Plans had been made for the older two kids to go to a friend’s house during Judah’s one year photography session. Their lunches were packed and they were so excited for their playdate. Three kids three and under and they were not only on-time, but were tracking toward being early. That’s no small feat.

And then the car wouldn’t start.

Isn’t it funny when we try to make plans, but life has something else in store?

It kind of reminds me of this little guy’s entrance into the world. Just over a year ago, my dear friend Danielle was shocked when she went into labor five weeks early. God had different plans for little Judah’s arrival and I just have a feeling that He also has some pretty big plans for his future. I just love this little guy!

This weekend was a first for me. Little {J} was officially the first newborn to stay awake throughout his entire session. For three and a half hours we pulled out every trick in the book–the space heater, the noise machine, multiple feedings, snuggling, and cuddling, but he was just too excited for his first photoshoot. But there was also another first during our session. {J} has to be the first baby to not make so much as a peep. And with the fact that he was awake the whole time just goes to show what a happy, content baby he is. He was such an absolute doll throughout the whole thing and once we realized that he just really wanted to be awake, we went with it.

And I’m glad we did because we got lots of adorable, wide-eyed awake images. It’s usually really difficult to get eye contact with a newborn, but {J} was amazing and kept looking directly at the camera, which made my job so easy. And I just love how expressive his eyes are in these pictures.

I usually love maternity sessions, but I loved this one even more because it’s my little niece in that beautiful belly! My sister in law, Carrie, is due with her first child in July and I couldn’t be more excited. When they were up last weekend for her baby shower I was able to document Carrie’s growing belly. As I was driving to the session I felt like a storm chaser or something–I was seriously watching the sun set before my eyes and was hoping that I would get there in time. But I must admit, the beautiful glowing sunset was the perfect compliment to Carrie’s natural pregnant glow. I just love these images.

I know her mom is anxious for her sneak peek, so I don’t want to keep her waiting any longer. And I really just couldn’t wait to get this little darling up on the blog. We first met up at a park, but once I saw her outfit I knew we needed to make the short drive over to the capitol for the rest of her shoot. I just love how her hair flower and beautiful cream colored dress look against the checkerboard pattern of the capitol entrance. She looks like a little vintage beauty.

Do you think as a mom it’s possible to ever grow tired of hearing how adorable your child is? I honestly don’t think so, but if I were to ask an expert, I would ask {T’s} mommy because I know she must get told how stinkin’ cute her little boy is all day long! I know I said it probably over 100 times during our session. Every grin, smirk, and interaction we had left me saying, “He is soooo cute!” And he really is! I’ve had the privilege of photographing {T} several times over the past year and I honestly didn’t think he could get any cuter than the first time we met, but he keeps proving me wrong with each session we have. Don’t you agree?

When this little gal showed up for her one year portrait session I got so excited because I knew that I had the perfect backdrop and chair to match her adorable spring outfit. And I love that Mom also brought along her older sister’s dress that she wore when she was {A’s} age. What a special way to document her big day!

Tomorrow I’m leaving on a jet plane headed to Utah for Nichole Van’s photography workshop. I can’t wait to learn from one of the best and meet other photographers from around the country. So needless to say, I’ll be out of the office tomorrow until Monday, March 29th. I’ll have limited access to email, but will return the bulk of my messages at the beginning of next week.

And I’m not the only thing headed out of the office. These beautiful products will be leaving my hands today and will arrive in my client’s later this week. I’ll admit that I’m not the greatest product photographer, but these are just too gorgeous not to be photographed. As a custom photographer, I offer much more than just your traditional 8×10 print. These gorgeous image boxes are my current favorite. They hold 15 matted prints and are so dreamy in person.

And this float wrap is a modern take on a 16×20 print. It’s literally your image, wrapped and mounted so when hung it appears to “float” from the wall. How cool is that? I’m so excited for my clients to have these (although part of me wishes I could keep them for myself!).

I would really encourage anyone considering custom photography to look around your home and find the perfect places to display your artwork. Gift prints such as 5×7’s and 8×10’s are meant to sit on desks. But walls scream for large, gorgeous images. Don’t be scared by the sound of a 16×20 or 20×24. I promise you it’s not as big as you might think and I bet you’d even wish you went larger. To me there is nothing more beautiful that decorating your home with images of your own life, so go big!

If you look up “cutie pie” in the dictionary (that is, if it were an actual word that was really in the dictionary), I’m sure you’d find these images of six month old {E}. That’s exactly the phrase that comes to mind when I think of this sweet little girl. Those chubby arms and legs, those big brown eyes, and those tiny, adorable two teeth. Cutie pie.

Mom–I had a great time hanging out with you and {E} yesterday. You both were so much fun to be around and are the reason why I love my job. I hope you love your sneak peek of your little cutie pie.

Yep. Six months is still my favorite age to photograph. While I love photographing children of all ages, there is just something special about this age. And there’s something even more special about this little girl. I’ve photographed her since she was in Mama’s belly and it’s such an honor to continue photographing her throughout her first year of life. I love to see how much growth occurs over just a few months. From an adorable sleepy newborn, to a beautiful three month old, to a stunning six month old, little {L} continues to get cuter and cuter. She was such a trooper and even though she’s smack dab in the middle of teething, she was such a love for us and gave us some great images.Mom–a little early “birthday” sneak peek for you!
