Do you think as a mom it’s possible to ever grow tired of hearing how adorable your child is? I honestly don’t think so, but if I were to ask an expert, I would ask {T’s} mommy because I know she must get told how stinkin’ cute her little boy is all day long! I know I said it probably over 100 times during our session. Every grin, smirk, and interaction we had left me saying, “He is soooo cute!” And he really is! I’ve had the privilege of photographing {T} several times over the past year and I honestly didn’t think he could get any cuter than the first time we met, but he keeps proving me wrong with each session we have. Don’t you agree?

When this little gal showed up for her one year portrait session I got so excited because I knew that I had the perfect backdrop and chair to match her adorable spring outfit. And I love that Mom also brought along her older sister’s dress that she wore when she was {A’s} age. What a special way to document her big day!

I get all giddy when a client is willing to do something a little different. Though I absolutely love working in the studio, when a mom suggests doing something more edgy I get really excited. I love being able to get creative (or even a little messy) with a session and this Tuesday we did just that. When Mom said it was okay to spoil the boys’ dinner with an ice cream appetizer, I knew it would be an awesome shoot. But how could it be anything but awesome with these two cuties in front of my lens?

And yes, we did get some traditional shots for the relatives. But I really love these ones that tell a story. And just look at those eyes! I have a feeling that these little guys will get out of many situations throughout their lives by their adorable puppy dog eyes alone. I know they have me wrapped around their little fingers!
Mom–thank you again for such a wonderful afternoon. I have so many more great images that I just can’t wait to edit. I’ll let you know as soon as your gallery is up!

If you look up “cutie pie” in the dictionary (that is, if it were an actual word that was really in the dictionary), I’m sure you’d find these images of six month old {E}. That’s exactly the phrase that comes to mind when I think of this sweet little girl. Those chubby arms and legs, those big brown eyes, and those tiny, adorable two teeth. Cutie pie.

Mom–I had a great time hanging out with you and {E} yesterday. You both were so much fun to be around and are the reason why I love my job. I hope you love your sneak peek of your little cutie pie.

Paint…check. Sand….check. Water…check. Toddler boy willing and ready to get messy for the sake of photography? You bet!

I had a great time meeting up with {Z} for his two year old session this week. We decided to meet at Artbeast, a local children’s art studio in downtown Sacramento. It proved to be the perfect setting with all the bold colors and fun activities for kids. I just love these images of {Z}–especially the last one with paint and water all over his face. It’s difficult to get two year olds to sit still for formal portraits at this age, so I think this is the perfect place for toddlers. I’m all about creative locations for children’s photography and I think Artbeast is one of my new favorites.

The flu has taken out half of our family this week and I’ve been part of that equation. Now I’m playing catch up for the extra (but much needed) rest that I snuck in during my kiddos nap time. So just a few valentine mini session images for now.

Little {A} can be seen all over my blog and website and I just adore her. Though she was feeling a bit under the weather as well, you would never know it by her precious smile. Just looking at these images makes me want to squeeze those cheeks!

Oh my cuteness! I know I have said it before, but it bears repeating–I have the absolute cutest clients around. These dolls have to be some of the most beautiful sisters I have ever laid eyes on. I was so excited to photograph them again this weekend and was over the moon when Mom pulled out all of their outfits–color, color, and more color! As a photographer I love to photograph color, and to me, the brighter the better. There is something so fun and playful–something that just screams childhood–about bright, bold colors.

And Mom totally knows my style. I love when she pulled out one of the wardrobe changes and said, “You’re going to go out this week and get this one, aren’t you?” And you know what? I already had the outfit for my own little girl! Talk about being in sync! Love it! I also have a feeling you’ll be seeing a lot more of their faces around here. Some of the images from their session have become my favorites and I plan to use them in my new marketing materials.

The biggest compliment to me is when a client comes back to take more images of their child. I absolutely love when I see a familiar name in my inbox requesting a future session. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. That they liked their pictures so much they chose me again as their photographer. What an honor!

I was so excited to see {J} for his one year session this weekend. Last time I photographed {J} he was just four months old–and adorable at that! You’ll recognize him up in my header with those stunning baby blues. Well, he’s even cuter at one year (if that’s possible!) and we had such a great time yesterday at our shoot. Unfortunately the weather was horrendous and we had to stay indoors, but it worked out perfectly for our cake smash session. One year olds + cake = an adorable mess!Mom–thank you so much for choosing me to capture {J’s} one year images. I had a great time and hope you love your sneak peek! I normally don’t get nervous for photo sessions. I really enjoy meeting new people, I love kids, and I love the challenge that comes along with photographing a dynamic family. It’s an exciting adventure to me and I rarely get nervous. Except for yesterday. And it wasn’t that I was nervous about meeting a new family. Or nervous that I wouldn’t be able to get the kids to smile. I wasn’t nervous about any of that. I was nervous because I was photographing one of my close friends and her family. I was nervous because she’s a fellow photographer and because she, too, deserves beautiful images of her family and I hoped that I would be able to provide her with those.

As photographers we constantly have visions floating around in our heads. We see something and think, “That would make an amazing photograph.” Or we’ll be in a store and see a clothing item and before we know it we dressed an entire family in coordinating colors for their photo session all in our heads. We are creative by nature and that creativity comes out in our images.

So when you are a photographer and have your own family photographed, you already have those images in your mind. You envision how you all will pose, what you will wear, and how the finished product will look. Or at least that’s what I do. So I was nervous. Nervous that I wouldn’t be able to recreate those pictures or be able to give the Runner family the beautiful family portrait that they deserved.

But guess what. I didn’t need to be nervous because every time I would show Sandy an image she would look at it and say, “That’s great!” Or after we would finish shooting one pose she would come over to the camera and say, “Any good ones?” (as if her family could take a bad picture) and then browse through them and say, “Looks good!” I’ve known Sandy for a long time now and have been in a bible study with her for nearly six years and if there is one quality that stands out when I think of her, it’s being an encourager. So my nervousness quickly faded and I was able to just have fun photographing this beautiful family. So Sandy, what do you think of the end result? I definitely think we got some good ones!

Love, love, LOVE this next one of James. When Sandy dressed him in his black, velvet blazer I nearly fell over. It honestly doesn’t get any cuter than this.And I just adore this one of Haylie.
Sandy, I’m glad we were able to get some of just you and the little ones, too. I love how they are both clinging on to your leg. So precious!
